Derby Memory Competition 2008

May 24th-25th

The Bramblebrook Community Centre, location of the Derby Memory Competition 2008

at a different perspective, nice church on the left...

...with an extraordinary nice front garden

conflicting dates again... competition started at 10:00 am

Met this nice lady one day prior to the event and since I like uniforms, she got a date with the camera

That almost looked like "Copperhead close"...

and right at the next corner if you do not read propperly: "Snake attack" made me smile. ;)

interesting to see and read this stuff in another language

on the way to the competition on day #1

need to explain: found it so funny that Derby people have three bins, one blue, one brown and one black. Same here in our town in Upper Bavaria.

Hm... not red enough...

on my way to the competition, still day #1

see Nick in the front and Phil Chambers (WMSC) next to Dagfinn in the back

Dai, I am so sorry I did not get this super picture of you in a sharp version. Hope you still like it, I do!

Dagfinn and Nick

I have no recall information whatsoever about how and why I did this one...

on the search for food after the 1st competition day

yeah... we did it. I mean we were not on a conference about healthfood oslt.

This time I finally got that special feather on Ben's hat. It is the one with the yellow dots.

Seven happy campers after competition day #2.

Wolfgang arrived in Derby day #2 and we went on to Leominster/Herefordshire. (back to school at Leominster museum)

my lesson there (had no difficulties with memorizing)

around St. Peter and Paul's cathedral in Leominster

St. Peter and Paul

Ludlow - said to be England's most beautiful town!

Had fish and chips there. :))))))))

A Ludlow shop selling an interesting combination of articles.

beautiful Ludlow

nice combination of my favourite colour and a (from my perspective) vintage car.

Ludlow: survivalist #1 (I am fond of these plants)

Ludlow: survivalist #2

St. Laurence's church in Ludlow. Met an English man there who had worked in Düsseldorf, and who could perfectly correct pronounce the "ü".

Shrewsbury, Shropshire. We had to change trains there on our trip to Aberystwyth/Wales

Shrewsbury railstation from the outside

Shrewsbury railstation from the inside

ohhh.. waiting for lunch at a diner in Aberystwyth

This is a Jacket potatoe with scrambled eggs and bacon. My favorite food on the whole England trip!! Wolfgang got the onions though.

Wolfgang's Jacket potatoe

a closer look into the scrambled eggs. Boy, were they good.

This lady from Ireland served us food and (very tasty) cappuccino with genuine warmness.

Aberystwyth, on the way to the shore: survivalist #3

she shore is ours! ;)

not...

a fish...

at all.

you would just expect the Famous Five to emerge from this "cave"!

my Famous One.

survivalist #4

yes, by the number of photos you can tell I pretty much liked these flowers. I have even more on my computer...

Ginster in German. "Whin" or "furze" in English. Glad it does not literally DO that! (Guess only Germans understand that comment...)

Aberystwyth

survivalist #5

dinner time!

got cloudy around 18:00 and we did almost make it to a dry place, but yes, got wet, and Wolfgang got a heavy cold.

last pictures before the rain set in

Back to the heart of Leominster

Last evening in Leominster

My friend Jean who took us all the way to BHX (since our train got cancelled due to a fire). Without her we would have missed our flight!

If you don't like yourself on any picture, let me know and I'll take care of it asap!
And if you'd like to have some of the pictures in their original size, send me a note,
and I will e-mail them to you. Please see Ben's report of the event at:

http://zoomy.blogspot.com/2008/05/making-up-for-lost-time.html

And of course: have a good day, folks: And do some memory training!  ;-)
